Atlanta, say goodbye to Macoumba Kandji, at least for a little while. He's on loan to the New York Red Bulls through the end of the 2008 season, with an option to buy his contract. The transfer is rumored to be between $150K-200K. This gives New York a bit of time to see Kandji up close and decide if he's worth the hefty transfer fee.
The move really hurts Atlanta's playoff hopes in the USL, they're 3 points out with 2 games to play. Macoumba would've been able to play in the Miami game on Sunday, but not the Puerto Rico game on Friday night due to his travel restrictions while he's trying to acquire asylum status here in the US.
Kandji will be available for selection for the Red Bulls on Thursday night in Columbus.
At least we were able to give him his 2008 Golden Cupcake Award before his departure. Congratulations Macoumba, best of luck to you in your new adventure in MLS! We're glad that Atlanta's secret will now be seen by the rest of the country.
