Okay, the Donkey guy is taking a break for a little while. I want to get back to some of the great things about the game...
For those of you who don't know, pretty much everything I do is related to soccer. I work it, coach it, watch it, and still try to play it. I try to play as much as I can, whether it's with the kids I coach or in the 7v7 leagues at Silverbacks Park.
I was reminded this week why I still do it, even though my ankles hate me the next day. All the frustrations of not being able to do the things I used to be able to do, or were never able to do, are washed away when everything just clicks for that one moment. All the frustrations of the workday, all the frustrations of whatever else is going on in my life, it's all erased for that time on the field.
I scored a great goal, one where I was actually able to do everything I wanted without thinking about it. I turned into that 10 year old boy who fell in love with this sport for a few moments again, I wanted to jump up and down and do a dance. I remembered why I do what I do. You just can't top that feeling, I know I haven't found anything that replaces it.

Uh, wow. When I feel like I just can't smile pleasantly and tell those stories one more time in another 14 hour day, I think of all of the people who are important to me and how they bust their a*#es too and how I can't let them down.
It's really what being part of a team is all about.
