Hugo Sanchez finally gets smart

I'm not the expert on the Mexican soccer scene like Güero, but I've wondered for a good while why Hugo hasn't been playing Guillermo Ochoa of América in goal. I know there's history with Oswaldo, but it's been pretty clear that the guy is on the decline. His hissy fits after giving up a goal, whether it was the defenders in front of him at fault or not, are just sad. Ochoa is young, has played very well for his club, and has been deserving of the chance for a long time now.

I think that Ochoa is officially EL HOMBRE after his performance against Brazil in El Tri's opening match of the Copa America. Ochoa has been making all sorts of huge saves, while Oswaldo is probably screaming at people about his socks being too tight.

Nery Castillo has continued his good form from the Gold Cup final with a sensational goal in the first half, while Ramoncito also scored with an awesome free kick. I know it isn't Brazil's first team, but 2-0 is 2-0. They are pretty lucky though. No Ronaldinho, no Kaka, but the US gets to face Tevez and Messi tomorrow. I hope Kyle Beckerman is ready...

I still think that Corona deserves a chance in goal, but Oswaldo should have been shown the door after the World Cup. It's been nothing but downhill for him since his move to Santos Laguna.

And in two games, Castillo has proven himself to be indispensable to this team. THIS is why people clamored for him for so long. Well worth the wait.

You might think that Mexico´s team was lucky because Brazil didn´t count with kaka and Ronaldinho but be aware that Hugo couldn´t call for Giovanni Dos Santos and his brother Jonathan Dos Santos, Carlos Vela, Villaluz and the official defence: Osorio, Salcido and also Pavel Pardo.

These players are just half of Mexico´s first team.

I don't care who is or isn't there, you can only play with the guys on the field. I do agree that Mexico wasn't at full strength, although they were missing less overall quality than Brazil. Don't give me the Dos Santos brothers, how many times have they featured for the first team? Osorio, Salcido, and Pardo are key losses (not to mention Borgetti and Guardado due to injury).

I don't think they were lucky. The team in Mexico jerseys thoroughly outplayed the team in Brazil jerseys. That's what matters...
