USMNT: I just don't know about this new 3rd jersey for the national team. Why didn't they just go with the hugely popular red jersey from the send-off game in Hartford last year? Instead, they go with this. The first thing I think of is a early 1980's Chicago Cubs throwback jersey. Will Leon Durham be suiting up for the Nats this Sunday?
Maybe it's just me, I don't know. If you're interested, go to the US Soccer store to get yours.
Virginia Beach: In what unfortunately doesn't come as much of a surprise, the new ownership of the Virginia Beach Mariners has pulled out. This has been a franchise with issues for years, but they just keep hanging around. There's no official word on this yet from the USL, which can't be too happy about this latest development. Sad to say that they're used to this sort of thing, but they are. We'll see what happens...
New York: The Red Bulls are making some moves. Defender Eric Denton was waived today, and a new defender will be joining the squad "soon". Might that defender be young Hunter Freeman of Colorado, rumors are floating in the Internet abyss that it could be true. If that's how it shakes out, that's definitely an upgrade in the back for the Bulls.
Also, check MLS Underground's excellent blow-by-blow of the Red Bulls' media day for more news.
Carolina: Thanks to Triangle Soccer Fanatics for pointing out this great piece about the Carolina Railhawks first combine. Good to see a new, stable USL-D1 team join the league. I'm still not so sure about that name...
Los Angeles: It looks like the Gals have dropped midfielder Josh Gardner. He looked to be really impressive early last season, especially in the CONCACAF series with Saprissa. Then, he just seemed to drop off the face of the earth. He has a great left foot, so he'll definitely catch on somewhere. I think there's more talent there than he's produced so far.
