Montreal IMPACTS, Santos SURVIVES, Marathon SHOCKS

More of Matchday One in the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League was played last night...
  • Montreal continued the USL's domination of this competition. Okay, that's overblown, but what you're hearing out of some of the USL supporters after both Puerto Rico and Montreal won their opening matches over teams that dispatched MLS teams in the qualifying round. Joe Public didn't look like the same team that ran New England ragged, maybe the cold did them in. Francisco Marcos' party continues...
  • Santos and Municipal battled for the full 90, with Santos overcoming a Municipal comeback with a 90th minute goal to seal the win. Maybe Santos will struggle more in that group than I thought...
  • Maybe it was just me, but I was shocked at the Marathon-Cruz Azul result. The Green Monster was excellent on the counterattack, their first goal was a beauty. The Central American teams are on top of Group A, while the big US and Mexican clubs are on the bottom.
Atlante hosts Olimpia tonight in Cancun to close out the round, with the exception of the postponed Houston-Firpo match.

It's going to be fun over the next few weeks...
