Sprinkles: Atlanta youngster shines in Dallas

Dallas: Chris Gbandi is officially gone, he's been transferred to FK Haugesund of Norway. The rumored price was somewhere between $75-100K.

Atlanta's own Doudou Toure is on trial with the Hoops and scored twice in a scrimmage with a local amateur side on Saturday. He's 16 and played with Atlanta Fire United here in town. Here's some thoughts on him from the excellent 3rd Degree website...

Toure - F - Young kid from Africa who lives in Atlanta. 16 years old. Tall, big, fast target striker. WOW. This kid is exactly what you want on your dev roster. A little clumsy when defending, and doesn’t have the tactics down of when to make a run, but all the physical tools are there - pace, acceleration, size. Wicked shot that moves all over the place and with pace. Could have finished a couple of more chances, but still had two goals. Showed his physical ability in the first half, and made smarter decisions in the second. Holds the ball up well and is patient when looking for the pass with ball at feet for a young kid. The guy is a stud and will almost definitely be on the developmental roster if he is willing to sign a contract.
London: There's word coming out of jolly old England that the US will be facing England at Wembley on May 28. Scotland was booked for a friendly, but pulled out. Could this be the game where Beckham gets his 100th cap? It almost sounds too perfect...

San Jose: Willie Sims, on loan to Puerto Rico of the USL, formerly of New England, currently of the Guatemalan national team, is in camp with the Quakes.

Chicago: The Fire defeated the US U-17 national team 3-1 in Bradenton, FL. Patrick Nyarko, the 1st round draft choice, scored two of the goals.

New York: Atiba Charles, 30 year old defender from the T&T national team and W Connection, is on trial with the Red Bulls.

For a good laugh, read about how excited Claudio Reyna is for the upcoming season. I guess he got a new recliner and big screen TV, since he'll be watching most of the games from his basement.

Colorado: In addition to bringing in Christian Gomez, the Rapids have added to their staff. Juergen Sommer is the new Director of Soccer and Gary Smith is a new assistant coach. It sounds like Sommer will primarily be involved with the academy players, but he'll also work with the first team goalkeepers. Smith is from Watford and will also be involved on the youth side of things, in addition to serving as the second assistant.

Salt Lake: RSL spanked the PDL Ventura County Fusion 7-0 on Saturday. Yura Movsisyan scored 4 in 45 minutes in the rout. Keep in mind that the PDL teams heavily rely on college players, who aren't able to join their teams until after the current semester is over.

Rumors are swirling that Nat Borchers is returning from Norway to join RSL.

Columbus: The Crew pounded Kansas City 4-0 in a preseason workout in Bradenton. George Josten had a goal and an assist in the final 30 minute portion of the match.

DC: Odense of Denmark defeated DCU 1-0 in Bradenton yesterday. Costa Rican winger Cristian Bolanos scored the goal.

LA: Jay Needham, drafted by DCU in '07 before joining Puerto Rico of the USL, is in camp on trial.

It could also easily be the one where Landy hits the century mark, too, although my money's on them holding him out of all but one of the spring friendlies so that he hits 100 at home in the opening WCQ.

Wow, I didn't even realize he was that close. I wonder how much he teases Becks about that during practice.

I might just have a new "Hello I'm Landon Donovan post..."

Yup. 98 as of last Wednesday. Just think, if he'd been up for Copa America, he'd have hit 100 before his 26th birthday.

Landy clearing 100 before Beckham would be awesome.
