DC: United is trying to get the Juan Sebastian Veron acquisition finalized, with his wife even starting to look for a house in the area. Somehow, they're also trying to do this without using a DP slot. How in the world do we go from talk of a $30 million contract to a non-DP slot in a day? Christian Laettner must have a creative accountant...
Columbus: The Crew will be hosting Toronto FC in the ABC season opener on March 29th. How in the world do two non-playoff teams get into the nationally televised season opening match? Is Columbus going to sign LeBron James to a contract? Or...
Toronto: is there something big in the works in Toronto? It's a thought...
MLS: Speaking of Opening Day, is MLS testing out the "cold weather" fans with the schedule? Opening Day games in New England, Salt Lake, and Colorado could be interesting. Hopefully, Mother Nature cooperates.
New York: The Sheva talk has started again, now that our boy can't get off the bench at Chelsea. The Revs are also mentioned (more on them in a minute), but the Red Bulls would seem to be the favorites. Can you imagine Kraft spending money on anyone not named Tom Brady? The problem is that NY would have to clear a DP slot. I don't see them getting rid of Angel, so I guess Claudio would be the odd man out. At least he'd be able to babysit Kenny Arena full-time now...
New England: The Revs are mentioned in the Sheva talk, but the more interesting news comes out of the UK on an Ipswich Town news site. Paul Mariner was up for the Technical Director position with the Bermuda FA, but has pulled out of the running. Supposedly, he's pulled out of the running because he could be getting a head coaching job in MLS. The bombshell is that Steve Nicol could be moving over to Toronto to take Mo Johnston's job. What is going on? Has Nicol had enough of the lack of resources put into the Revs, or have the Revs had enough of losing in title games?
