A Tribute To Southside Steve...

As loyal Silverbacks fans, I think it's time the Cupcake Nation pays tribute to Southside Steve, the man who undoubtedly makes every game at Silverbacks Park unforgettable.

Without you Steve, I don't think we'd ever know that a corner kick is a scoring opportunity. And I know that you must have had a hand in the brilliant decision to play the "Jaws" theme during every one of these "scoring opportunities".

But what really sets you apart from the average public address announcer isn't your long, flowing locks, but your inability to pronounce even the most simplest of names, that uncanny ability to shout into the microphone as a Silverbacks player is taking a shot, and your Jim Rome-esque knowledge of soccer terminology.

So in a show of respect for your performance last night, I'm dedicating this song to you:

You know what Southside? In order to bury the hatchet and any ill will, I'll invite you to the closest Starbucks tomorrow night so we can watch the Silverbacks game on USL Live just like you told us to last night. I'll even buy the drinks...

I was about to be furious that center field wasn't mentioned until I saw the video.

For those not in the RE/MAX last night (first off, be glad you don't have to listen to the worst PA announcer in American sports), he described the altercation in stoppage time as taking place in "center field".

I didn't know the penalty area was center field. I think Steve was just confused that the refs weren't calling the two line pass.

I do have to give the man some props.

One of his "Top Friends" on his mySpace page is Jackyl.

If they took the chainsaw to Southside's ponytail, then they'd get props.

Can't we petition for the british guy that filled in for Southside when he was otherwise engaged elsewhere for the first leg of the quarter-final...minus the inane birthday announcements during the run of play (which he made sound like it was done with a gun to his head) he shut up and let the game do the talking and only mentioned substitutions and which team retained possession for throw-ins, corners, etc....gee like a PA announcer is supposed to.
