Cupcake Weekend Preview

Friday
For Atlanta area fans, the big game is tonight when the Silverbacks conclude their regular season in Vancouver. A win or a draw seals fourth place for Los Gorillas, while a loss opens up a few different possibilities. While the Whitecaps his a skid of epic proportions midway through the season, they have won their last two. Have they righted the ship? We'll see tonight at 10 on USL Live.

Charleston also takes on Puerto Rico in USL action on FSC tonight at 8. The Battery on in a must win situation if they want to continue into the postseason. A little desperation is always fun to watch.

In other action, there will be a Mexicano brawl in the Bakery as Jaguares takes on Tecos on ESPN Deportes and Azteca America at 6:55. Bofo hasn't really done much for Chiapas since his grand arrival, but Tecos has been even worse. How do you say Toilet Bowl in Spanish? Gran Partido de Crap? (Gracias to Medio Tiempo for the cartoon)

Saturday
Euro 2008 qualifying takes center stage today. Steve McClaren tries to keep his job as England plays Israel on Setanta PPV. FSC has Russia-Macedonia at 11, San Marino-Czech Republic at 2, and Iceland-Spain at 4. Go San Marino and Iceland! GolTV has the highest profile game of the day with Italy-France at 2:30. Who will Materazzi provoke this time around?

In other international action on Saturday, GolTV has Ecuador-El Salvador at 7 and Peru-Colombia at 9.

The MLS docket is highlighted by Columbus-Chicago at 7:30 on Direct Kick. This will a true test to see if the Fire can put everything together to make a late run into the playoffs. My Magic 8 Ball says "very likely". The Village People want to change my mind though. Other MLS action includes Dallas-Toronto at 8:30 (DK), Houston-Salt Lake at 8:30 (HDNet), and LA-Colorado at 10 (FSC).

The top game from Mexico features Cruz Azul hosting Pachuca at 5:55 on Azteca America. Watch it if you can, Pachuca is the best team in this hemisphere right now.

Sunday
My day will be spent at Estadio RFK for the DC United-New England match. If you see a cupcake banner in the Barra Brava, you know I had something to do with it. Watch for it at 3 on TeleFutura. Goats USA will host New York at 8 in the other MLS match of the day on Direct Kick.

Since Mexico wussed out (that's my story and I'm sticking with it), Brazil has come to Chi-town to face the Yanks. Catch the game at 4 on ESPN2 and Univision. El Tri replaced the US with Panama as the slaughter-ee in the Azteca, it's on Telemundo at 3.

For you early risers, Galavision will have the U17 World Cup final between Spain and Nigeria at 6 am. They will replay it later at 7 pm as well.

I'll try to check in from the road in DC, but I'm sure EG and ECB will be holding things down from the ATL. Expect a USL playoff post later tonight after the smoke clears a bit.
