Cupcake Weekend Preview

Friday: The UEFA Super Cup will be played this afternoon (2:30 on FSC) between AC Milan and Sevilla. Besides being a great match, it should be emotional as Sevilla takes the field for the first time since Antonio Puerta's passing.

Montreal-Rochester is on FSC tonight in a game that will have an Impact (lame, I know) on Atlanta's playoff position. A third place finish for the Silverbacks isn't completely out of the picture, but neither is seventh.

Some citizens of the Cupcake Nation might be heading up I-85 for the big Palmetto Derby between Clemson and South Carolina. Clemson features a couple of Silverbacks PDL stars in Bucholz and Parrish, while South Carolina features a whole host of players from Atlanta. Four players from the Atlanta Fire U18 team that went to nationals are now starting for the Gamecocks.

Saturday: On the youth side of things, the nationally known Atlanta Cup kicks off with teams from all over the Southeast playing in Atlanta. I know I'll be catching some of the stars of tomorrow while they're all here.

In England, Fulham USA is on FSC at 10:00 a.m. and Manchester United should be dismantling Sunderland at noon. A couple of interesting subplots for that one, Roy Keane makes his return to Old Trafford and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will say goodbye to the fans. Setanta has Liverpool-Derby at 10 am as well.

My Jaguares de Chiapas will be hosting a slumping Pumas on FSE at 6, hopefully I'll get to catch some of it at El Rey del Taco, the best Mexican restaurant in town. Chivas will be spanking Tigres later in the night.

The playoff bound Atlanta Silverbacks play their final regular season match at the RE/MAX on Saturday night, hosting Puerto Rico. The Islanders are also in the playoffs, and trying to move up the standings. Atlanta has handled themselves very well against Puerto Rico this season, but Colin Clarke has improved Los Boricuas.

In MLS, the streaking Fire head to New York, a clash of the titans will take place in Dallas between the Hoops and DC, and the Wiz will travel down to Houston for an FSC match. Hopefully, we'll be able to get to the Brewhouse in time to see the game of the night. Real Salt Lake visits the Home Depot Center to face the SuperLiga Champion LA Galaxy! Oh wait, Donovan missed the PK, right? Never mind...

Sunday: Some citizens will care about the Arsenal-Pompey match, not me. Chelsea visits Aston Villa on FSC.

TeleFutura will have the MLS/FMF doubleheader of El Crew-Los Rapids y America-Atlas on Sunday.

Liga Lawrenceville is also kicking off, so it will be a busy Holiday weekend for the Cupcake Nation. Luckily, we have Monday to rest...

Montreal beat Rochester 2-0 tonight. On another note, wouldn't be terrible to have the final USL match at Seattle(Quest Field) and have to endure those football grid lines.

Minn beat Seattle 2-1. Seattle can't beat them. Minn needs two or three quality players and they will be a handful. I really like their style of play.

Of course, you guys wouldn't know it, but for those of us that are NOT in Atlanta tonight... well, here's the thing... USLDEAD killed us again - no live broadcast of tonight's game.
