An Angel has gotten his wings, maybe

Shep Messing said this on WOR radio in New York this morning, ""This will be a tremendous signing for the New York Red Bulls. He can score goals. He is absolutely the goal-scorer the Red Bulls need." Now Shep is just a broadcaster, and doesn't work for the team, but it sounds like he knows that Juan Pablo Angel of Aston Villa will be joining the Red Bulls shortly.

He hasn't played for Villa since January 31, and that was a five minute substitute appearance. JPA is desperate to show out for the Colombian national team bosses and get picked for this summer's Copa America.

Before Villa, Angel played for River Plate. Fans would wear Angel's wings in honor of Juan Pablo. Will we see the same out of the Red Bull faithful? If this is true, they should. JPA scored 44 goals for Villa, and was their most expensive signing ever. Prior to that, he had 55 goals in 111 games for River Plate. He's an exciting player to watch, and MLS would be quite happy to have him. I just hope he's used right in New York.
