Rain on the DOOP Parade

Philadelphia was not quite ready for prime time last night as they dropped a 2-0 result to Seattle. Toni Stahl's red card before halftime definitely didn't help, but Seattle was in complete control of the match from the opening whistle. The Sounders' counterattack was in fine form, especially through Steve Zakuani down the left side.

The Union definitely need Fred & Shavar Thomas on the field, their young team didn't know how to react to the early Sounders' goal and the intimidating atmosphere at Qwest Field. Their defense especially needs work. The bright spot was the play of young Colombian Roger Torres. He's one to watch all year.

Seattle should be a top challenger in the West this year. Do they have enough to get past the first round of the playoffs? It's too early to tell right now, let's reassess that after Swiss international Blaise N'Kufo joins the squad after the World Cup. N'Kufo & Montero up top, with Ljungberg playing behind them could be more than most MLS defenses can handle.
