Puerto Rico UP, DC United DOWN, Pumas QUE?

Quick responses to the CONCACAF Champions League results from last night...
  • Puerto Rico just keeps on keeping on, doing what Chivas USA couldn't do with a 2-1 home win over Tauro of Panama. WHO WILL STOP THE ISLANDERS??? We'll see when they play Atlante...
  • I knew DC was in trouble when I saw the starting lineup. Thompson in a Champions League game, yikes. The red card kind of killed any chances of a respectable result, but McTavish has to be smarter than that. If they get bounced out of Champions League AND the MLS playoffs, will Coach Soehn be in trouble? They better get a result in LA this weekend...
  • Pumas tied San Francisco of Panama, and probably could've lost. I guess Panama earned their two slots into the tournament, huh?

Montreal 1-0 Joe Public HT

Maybe Seattle wants to rethink the demotion to MLS.

Now 2-0. I think Francisco Marcos is prank calling Don Garber some more tonight...

Joe Public doesn't even look like the same team tonight. Not to take anything away from Montreal at all, but what happened to Joe Public's speed? I guess the gloves slow them down or something...

Given the USL clubs succeeding where the MLS clubs failed despite having less resources and the MLS fans excuse that it's because they don't care about the Champions League, I'm wondering if maybe there should be a adjustment to the manner in which Champions League places are handed out.

Top four in the USL play the MLS qualifiers in one two-legged match for each team, the four winners qualify for the Champions League the next year?

To be honest, the MLS clubs look as if they are running in slow motion against these teams whereas the USL clubs seem to match up real well against the same teams, especially PR. The MLS has been exposed and they need to reassess their talent. This is a wake up call that they needed. It will make the league better in the coming years.

What happened to JP's speed is that they played a better team this time than last time.

Well, from what I have seen, PR, Montreal, Vancouver and Seattle could move right in to MLS and compete very nicely. Seattle has beaten every MLS team they have played this year. PR may have the deepest roster in North America. They do not have a first or second team. Their coach has an unlimited budget it seems.

Jagdeosingh reminds me a lot of Macoumba with less ball skills. But he's only 19 and still has a big upside. That kid isn't going to be in USL for long.

Cruz Azul down 2-0 to Marathon says this tournament has a lot more surprises coming.
