Sprinkles: From Atlanta to Spain to Carolina to the Caribbean

Who needs the Patriots-Colts? Plenty of news going on in the world of soccer, and we're going to catch up on some other tidbits:

- It's official. Dan Antoniuk won't be back with the Silverbacks next season. He's moved on to Carolina in a move that's hardly surprising, given the last few weeks of the Silverbacks season. I still can't understand the justification of leaving the league's leading scorer out of the starting lineup during the playoffs.

- Meanwhile, two other Silverbacks are keeping busy by joining the Minnesota Thunder for their Copa Minnesota game against the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Hayes and Dayton O'Brien are heading north to take on Beckham and crew next Sunday.

- Over in my 2nd home country of Spain, Danny Szetela suited up for Racing Santander today for their match against Espanyol. (Click on the Suplentes tag after following the link.) I was hoping that after leading 1-0 and following a Espanyol red card that he'd get some run, but it wasn't to be as Espanyol came back from a man down to get a draw with a late penalty. It should be just a matter of time until he hits the field.

- The Puerto Rico Islanders are down in Trinidad & Tobago for the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship. The winner of the tournament goes through as the Caribbean's representative in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. The Islanders open the Group Stage later today against Harbour View FC from Jamaica. Last year the Islanders fell at this stage of the tournament, and it doesn't get any easier this year as they open with one of the favorites.

Dayton has actually been traded to Minnesota for someone on the roster of the game. I can't remember the guy's name though.

I liked what little I got to see of Dayton this season, he was one of the few who had the personality to take people on in 1v1 situations.

Minnesota's a young team, but they're putting together some nice talent.

I'll be curious to see who this defender is...

Toure

From the s.backs website:
“Dayton O’Brien did really well for us in 2007, but we could not pass up the opportunity to add Ansu Toure to our roster. He is a very dynamic player who is able to play throughout the midfield and upfront. I’m excited to see what he can do in a Silverbacks uniform,” commented Head Coach Jason Smith.

That translates as, "Dayton did really well for us at the beginning of the season as one of the only people trying to attack players and then mysteriously ride the bench for the remainder of the season... he was great, I think we got a lot out of him, just like that Antoniuk guy (of course he had serious issues that couldn't be published so that's another story... dur)"

$$, You are just like your compadres that don't know anything about what is really going on with the Silverbacks. You just run your mouth.

$$, where would you have O'Brien play? Was he better than Hassim or Kanji? I don't think so. Just keep on running your mouth.

I realize that you guys don't get much traffic here, but $$ sounds just like El Guero. Is it true? I know that you guys answer your own posts but this is embarrassing.

Uh, you just answered yourself 2 times. Relax buddy...

O'Brien's a left sided player or a forward, so Kandji and Hassim weren't his competition.

Like I said, I thought he looked good in the limited amount of time he got this year. His 1v1 skills were very good and he added a different element to the team.

Once it was decided to use Rodrigo as a left midfielder, that pretty much sealed Dayton's fate. When Millwood came back from injury and Wolfe signed, he wasn't needed as cover up top either.

I'm interested to see where Toure will be used. I'd have to guess up top, since the midfield will all be back. Does that mean that one of the other forwards could be on the way out?
