Silverbacks-Rhinos Live Blog

Feel free to add your comments, I'm pretty pissed off as it is thanks to the Colorado-Chivas USA match and the decision by TeleFutura not to rejoin the broadcast after the lightning delay.

0:00 - Seeing the starting lineups, it pisses me off to no end. Whatever grudge Jason Smith has against Dan Antoniuk is complete garbage. Antoniuk led the league in points and assists, and was also tied for the team's leading goalscorer. This is the fecking playoffs, not a US Open Cup game against Azzurri FC.

7:00 - Silverbacks with the best two chances early, too bad nobody was within 30 yards of Ukah when he gets the ball against two Rhino defenders. As I type this, McIntosh comes up with a big early save.

12:00 - Millwood comes in on the left, Vallow comes out and blocks the shot but stays down and grabs his back. Meanwhile, as the play keeps going on, I wouldn't know what happened because the camera stays on Vallow. A clean play, I'm just pissed we couldn't see what else happened. Didn't appear Millwood stepped on him or hit him in any way. Still 0-0, as is Puerto Rico-Montreal.

21:00 - Another nice save by McIntosh on John Ball. Corner results in nothing, but Rochester quickly comes back down for a long shot. 'Backs need some sustained possession.

23:00 - Nice dummy by Millwood to Ukah, who could have scored if he had a left foot. RIDICULOUS. I could have stopped his shot.

33:00 - Best Atlanta chances have come on counters. Rhinos have better chances in the opposite half, however. Meanwhile Puerto Rico has taken a 1-0 lead on the island to tie the series 3-3. I smell an upset coming...

36:00 - Millwood shoots into the right sidenetting. Puerto Rico-Montreal broadcast crapping out as usual...

40:00 - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rochester breaks out but a huge Jarun slide tackle leaves it for Millwood, who gets it to Ukah, who promptly plays it forward for Millwood in all alone to put it under Vallow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HT - 1-0 'Backs, I wouldn't say either team has dominated. If Rochester gets on the end of one or two of those many crosses into the box, things could be a lot different. That crap Lancaster pulled at the end of the half was embarrassing. If you're that hurt, get off the field and call for a sub. Ref made it worse by calling the trainer out and resuming play while the trainer was still on the field. How I wish this game was being played in Atlanta, for those who don't live here, the weather is absolutely gorgeous today. Friday: Rain all day, about 1,000 people at the game. Today, sunny in the 60s. Geez, think a few more people would have shown up?

48:00 - Rhinos with the possession early in the 2nd half. No changes for the 'Backs, surprisingly Lancaster is OK. Harrison in for Vallow in the net for the Rhinos.

57:00 - Diallo also in for the Rhinos. 'Backs defending nervously in the back, if things keep up the Rhinos are going to pull one back.

60:00 - Diallo almost wins a dangerous free kick outside the box but ref denies his pleas for a foul against Bobo. On the other end, a free kick from about 40 yards out blasted well high and wide by Liendo. Smart, really smart. Lancaster out for Tweety.

63:00 - Play starting to get sloppy, Ukah using his strength well to keep the Rhinos off the ball and gain a few seconds. Wolfe on for Millwood.

67:00 - Free kick from the Rhinos headed on goal, HUGE SAVE by McIntosh. A long ball played out, Wolfe runs on to it and heads it past Harrison, but can't run onto it as Harrison takes out Wolfe. No foul called. HUH?

75:00 - Game moving rather quickly now. 'Backs still surviving as Rhinos keep coming close. Rivillo on for a tired Ukah, who was huge today. For as much crap as I give him, he played a great game.

80:00 - 1-1, corner by the Rhinos, cleared out momentarily but snuck back in and Delicate is found unmarked in front of the goal who taps it by McIntosh. You could see it coming. HOLD ON..........On the island, Puerto Rico takes a 2-0 lead and a 4-3 lead on aggregate. 'Backs need Puerto Rico to win to avoid Seattle in the semis. But let's not go there just yet...

88:00 - 'Backs just hoofing it out anyway they can. Remember guys, KICK IT HIGH! Hudson on for Liendo, 4th sub for Atlanta, still no Antoniuk in sight.

89:00 - Miscommunication between Hayes and Jarun leads to a Diallo shot that McIntosh does well to save. Not the time for this guys...

91:00 - Corner for Rochester goes for nothing. Despite what EVERYONE says, game in Puerto Rico is still not over. Technically. Islanders up 3-0 in stoppage time.

92:00 - FINALLY, Antoniuk is coming on for Macoumbo. Rochester corner goes for nothing, but Backs can't break quickly and take advantage of the empty goal.

FT - It's over. 'Backs advance with a 1-1 draw. But Wolfe picks up a stupid red by getting into it with Harrison AFTER THE WHISTLE IS BLOWN. Maybe NOW Antoniuk can start the next match?????????????????????????

HT - PR 1; CANADA 0

Joining in at halftime, has McIntosh been this good throughout? He's made two ridiculous saves in the second half. This is an FC Dallas/Open Cup performance out of him again.

Walters got away with a clever little "nudge" on Menyongar in the box, could've been a PK if the ref had been closer to the action.

Smart move to get Ukah out and bring Rivillo in, they need a little more possession in the middle. Also, they don't Ukah to get a second yellow.

Oh crap, Rhinos goal. Now things will get really, really interesting...

Great shot by Rios (I think) and Harrison keeps the Rhinos in it.

Puerto Rico wins their series 4-3, adios Montreal.

5-3 PR Final

Kandji had a chance to bury the game in injury time, but he put the shot into Maine.

Some dicey moments late, but Atlanta holds on.

We're not done, even after the final whistle, as Wolfe gets a red card for elbowing Rochester's keeper for no reason at all. Stupid.

I was glad to see Wolfe throw the elbow kind. I saw where on eof the Rhinos pulled down a Montreal Ultras sign after a goal. Since then I consider them a bunch of bratty punks. There were times when they played like it as well. Menyongar blew 109 a kiss like a brat. Glad to see him lose. I will say this: we rolled on the ground a lot. Rhinos had that to put up with all game.

The Rhinos do have some punks in their team, no question. But at that point in the game, their season was over and Atlanta was headed to the semis. For Wolfe to basically give up a game for an elbow that meant absolutely nothing was ridiculous. It wasn't worth it.

Just start laughing at them at the final whistle and celebrate, there's no need to penalize your teammates for your childishness.

The time wasting was way over the top, sorry to see the Silverbacks resort to that so much. You do what you have to in the playoffs, but I didn't think all the theatrics was necessary.

They must have been watching the Mexican and South American leagues where the rolling around and feighning injury is most prevalent.

It's prevalent everywhere now. Have you seen Italy and France?
