Freddy needs to find a Portugese pop singer

According to Soccer by Ives, it looks like young Freddy is headed to Benfica. He's not sure on the money, but the Salt Lake newspaper reported that MLS had priced him at $7.5 million. Freddy did not rejoin RSL after the U20 World Cup, he asked for some extra time off. It was presumed that he was working out his transfer deal during that time.

Personally, I think this is a pretty good move for Freddy. It's much better than him playing in Salt Lake, and definitely far better than going to England to get kicked all over the pitch. I would've preferred a move to Holland or Spain, but he will learn a great deal with a club like Benfica. Let's just hope he gets to play in the middle and not get bumped out to the left, like in DC or Salt Lake.

It's definitely a good move for MLS. I'm sure they won't complain about the $7.5 million in the bank account. I would say that the Adu hype has paid off quite nicely.

I think $5 to $7.5 million is a fair valuation.

Observers might want to start looking at who he has been playing with and for as opposed to always looking at who he has been playing against when accessing his value.

I would not be surprised to see him sold on in 2 to 5 years for $20 million.

Looks like this one's scuttled, given the gap in the valuation and the match-fixing scandal enveloping Portuguese soccer. Oh boy. He'll probably end up in the Netherlands somewhere, he'll do well and then they'll sell him to some huge club and make a huge profit.

For him, I think Holland or Spain would be better options.

I'm surprised MLS agreed to a $2.5 million, I thought they'd hold out for more.
