Because, you know, I can't pass up a chance to bash the Silverbacks

We've all known for months about the much-anticipated visit of Cruz Azul to Atlanta on July 28th to play the Silverbacks.

I was excited when I first heard about the game, but when the ticket prices were revealed, I decided against it. Tickets are either $37.50 or $55.00 before tax.

I tried to let this go as much as possible until this. Seems that three days before the game in Atlanta, Carolina will be hosting said Cruz Azul.

The difference? Well, tickets range from $15 to $25. At a soccer-specific stadium in a soccer complex, not a soccer-specific stadium in a construction site. And from what we're hearing here in the Cupcake Nation, ticket sales aren't going too well for the 'Backs.

And it's not like they made it easy to get them. Where the RailHawks put their sales on Ticketmaster, for Atlanta's tickets you either have to buy them over the phone, at the team's offices (which, I can tell you from experience, aren't the easiest to find), or at the Park. No internet sales. Nice.

Which is why I'll probably head out next Thursday for the Silverbacks' other marquee friendly, against Monterrey. Tickets are more reasonably prices ($20 or $35), and you can actually order them online.

Add to that all the stuff they've planned for the game, including an appearance by the Senadoras from Univision's Republica Deportiva, and this game is much more worth going to. I think I'm going to have to keep Shoe away from his favorite Senadora. Luckily I was taught a long time ago by an ex-girlfriend about how naca those girls are. Until our much-delayed journey out west for a Chivas USA game and hanging out with the ChivaGirls, I guess this will have to do.

Let us know if you find out why the ticket price is so much higher in Atlanta vs Carolina.

I don't want to assume the worst (the Backs are price gouging our Mexican immigrant friends). I was willing to assume the Backs had to agree to a big guarantee to get Cruz Azul here, and are trying to make back some of that from the gate. Maybe the brain trust just miscalculated on the demand for tickets. Can you check with your spies and get us the story? Thx.
