MLS Power Rankings: Week 5

Now that all the teams have some games under their belt, things are starting to clear up a little. At least until the big names start coming in the summer.

Eastern Conference

1. Kansas City Wizards - Stole one against Columbus, giving the Crew their first loss. EJ was your Player of the Month for April.

2. New York Red Bull - 5 minutes don't make a team, but they'll knock them out of the top spot. Now the only undefeated team in the league, with Juan Pablo Angel ready to go.

3. New England Revolution - Beat a good Chicago team on Sunday, bouncing back nicely after getting robbed by Terry Vaughn on Thursday.

4. Chicago Fire - Suffered first loss to a good New England team, but the Fire are still a great team. They'll handle Toronto easily on Saturday.

5. Columbus Crew - Could have put the Wiz away with a goal, and that seems to be the Crew's biggest problem. Hopefully Barros Schelotto will help the paltry 3 goals in 5 games stat.

6. D.C. United - Didn't deserve a point on Thursday and barely escaped with the full three on Sunday. I'm still not convinced by this team. Yet.

7. Toronto FC - If they don't score a goal on Saturday, how many people can they expect to come back?

Western Conference

1. Houston Dynamo - Still not sure if DeRo is back for good, but if he's on, they're the team to beat in a bad conference.

2. Los Angeles Galaxy - I know they don't deserve to be this high, but who are you going to put here? Didn't play while other teams except for Houston didn't look so good.

3. FC Dallas - If they can win on Saturday in KC, they'll be moving up. A real up and down team right now.

4. Colorado Rapids - Ran into a rejuvenated DeRo on Saturday. Getting RSL at home on Thursday is nice, but a visit to New York on Sunday doesn't bode well.

5. Chivas USA - Should have had at least a point on Sunday. With Guevara gone, Barrera all but gone, this team needs help. Galindo looks to be the real deal, another good sign for players making the jump from USL-1. A win at Columbus on Saturday would help tremendously.

6. Real Salt Lake - Two late goals pull out a point against New York, something nobody could have envisioned. Is this the turning point for them? I doubt it...

Notes for the week:

- Nice to see Shoe give credit to Maykel Galindo for his great goal on Sunday. What he didn't mention is how bad he made Josh Gros look.

- Tony Perkins is my new favorite keeper. Those guys on TeleFutura crack me up.

- Our friend David at The Offside is either panicking too soon or is trying to stir up some discussion. How can you fire Preki? 5 games into your coaching tenure, and you want a coach to get fired?

- I'm hoping that Toronto can at least score a goal on Saturday. The fans deserve something to cheer about.
